Passive Solar Collector Works!

My passive solar collector really works. While the temp outside did not hit 29 degrees, I had 87 degree air coming out of the collector. I am well pleased. Now if only we had a few (!) more sunny days, so it could really be of service.

Brrrrrrrrrrrrr

For this first post, the weather certainly does not make a person think of gardening! It is mid 30's and dropping. Snow is swirling around and looks like it wants to just dump loads of snow. And the wind--It's been windy since last evening, but is really picking up now. Hope we don't get much snow, or the drifts will be high. I guess the west is really getting hit. We shouldn't be too bad, most snow is predicted to go North - and 2 of my sons live in Northern Illinois! As long as we don't get much ice or sleet, things will be OK. Icy roads just make life miserable if you need to go out. These are the days I miss the fireplace in my old house (and chopping wood helps keep a person warm!).
Anyone who lives in the St. Louis area knows that winter can be a very drab time of year. Not much sun and not much snow. That means no skiing (unless man-made "snow"), no sledding, just kind of blah. I'm a person who really likes the sun - temperature is much less important than seeing the sun.Oh well, after all these years, you just get accustomed to it, more or less. Still it is a time to reflect and plan for spring gardening - and that is always good. Outside I can hear the wind - literally - howling and as I sit at the computer I feel a REALLY cold draft. I'll have to investigate to find the air leak and plug it. I guess I did not winterize (probable the wall air conditioner) well enough. That's a MUST do promptly job.  I am thankful for an otherwise warm house on a day like today. I always remind myself that, with the passing of this day we are one day closer to spring! Yeah!.
All for now, the draft is not stopping....
